Cape Town is filled with beautiful places to ask one of life’s biggest questions. You might imagine proposing beside the ocean as the sun disappears behind the mountains, beneath old trees in a quiet garden, on a secluded wine farm or somewhere that already holds meaning in your story.
I am Christene, a Cape Town proposal and wedding photographer with more than 15 years of experience photographing people, relationships and the moments they never want to forget. Over the years, I have discovered beautiful locations throughout Cape Town and the Winelands, including well-known landmarks and quieter hidden gems that offer privacy, beautiful light and space to be fully present.
The most memorable proposals do not have to be elaborate. They simply need to feel like the two of you. Once you have chosen the right setting, I can help you consider the best time of day, the direction of the light, how busy the location may be and how your proposal can be photographed without taking away from the surprise.
A little insider tip: Many of these beautiful venues are happy for couples to have photographs taken if you’re already enjoying a meal, wine tasting or staying overnight. Every venue has its own policies, so it’s always best to check beforehand but planning your proposal around an experience often makes the day feel even more special.
How can it stay a surprise on the day?
Not everyone wants the pressure of planning an elaborate surprise. One of my favourite ideas is to book what appears to be a relaxed couple’s photoshoot. We spend time exploring one of Cape Town’s beautiful locations together, and whenever the moment feels right, you can simply get down on one knee. It gives you the freedom to choose the perfect moment while allowing me to capture the proposal naturally, without your partner suspecting a thing. If the proposal happens towards the beginning of the session, the excitement of you as newly engaged can be captured and we can take some engagement photographs of the two of you and your session can end with a glass of wine or supper just after sunset when we have finished with the photographs.
